Character Strong
This year we are continuing to grow our focus on character education. Character education is a shared responsibility by the family, school, and community. It is how we intentionally model and teach students the traits that make for capable and compassionate people.
Character education can also help increase student success. Developing character and emotional awareness not only helps foster a sense of responsibility, focus, and drive, but also helps students feel safe and successful at school. Building character helps students interact successfully with their teachers and peers which in turn helps them perform better and want to be at school. This year, we will be learning about and practicing eight essential character traits at CPM to help our students become Character Strong.
■ Commitment
■ Patience
■ Humility
■ Selflessness
■ Kindness
■ Respect
■ Honesty
■ Forgiveness
Each month we will focus on one of the eight essential character traits. Students will learn about the trait in various ways including monthly videos, morning announcements, and character dares which encourage students to try demonstrating the trait in a specific way. Staff will be on the lookout for students demonstrating the character traits, and recognize them with cougar cash that can be spent at our new student store that is open the end of each month!
To encourage home-school collaboration, you can find the daily character dares in our CPM Counseling Canvas course that each student is enrolled in under the Character Strong Module. Finding opportunities to talk about the character trait with your student at home will help them connect their learning to different settings!
Thank you!
